Custom Made Fireplace Mantels and Shelves: My Inspiration
In the heart of our family's legacy, craftsmanship flows through our veins. A tradition that began with my grandfather, a skilled carpenter, continued with my father, and found its way to me. I vividly recall those cherished summer days at our family cabinet shop, where my journey in woodworking unfolded.
At the age of six, my initial "work" involved creating paths with a push broom amid the sawdust-laden floor, followed by leisurely lunches beneath a fruit tree in the orchard beside the shop. Perhaps, in those early days, I was more of an observer than a contributor, but my father's patience and guidance gradually transformed me into an apprentice, absorbing the profound wisdom of woodworking.
For many years, I had the privilege of working alongside my father—a sentiment not everyone can express.
The allure of this craft captured my heart—the scent of freshly cut wood, the rhythmic hum of saws, the autonomy of being one's own boss, and the joy of creating daily. It resonated with me so deeply that, by the age of 15, I had unequivocally decided on my life's path, and I haven't wavered since. Gratitude fills me for every moment.
In a poignant conversation with my father, a few years before his passing, we marveled at our legacy—nearly 10,000 meticulously crafted fireplace mantels and shelves. Though the count has blurred with time, the internet has expanded our reach, allowing us to ship our creations across America and beyond.
For 62 years, Iguana Art & Design has been at the forefront of designing and crafting mantels and shelves. Across four generations, spanning from my grandfather to my son, who is now mastering the trade, I can honestly say that these years have been the pinnacle of my life. Our passion for what we do resonates in every piece we create.
